I heartily agree with sentiments in the two letters, 'Courses for drivers' and 'Driving skills.'
The reasons for the crashes are as stated because these motorists have forgotten that driving requires them to look out through their vehicle's windscreen and observe what is going on around them, other traffic, road signs, road and weather conditions and so on. Driving is not an exercise in burying one's head inside the vehicle with eyes glued to the satnav and believing what it shows is the gospel according to satnavs.
As a member of the IAM, I would recommend all motorists not already members of it or similar organisations to take the opportunity to do the free Advanced Driving Course day. They will learn a great deal and become better motorists as a result, often to the benefit of their pocket as well because some insurance companies lower their premiums to IAM members.
