CELEBRATIONS were held to mark the 103rd birthday of Ivy Pearce.

Born on June 4 1916, Ivy is the oldest resident of Ruardean Hill, and a birthday tea was held on the big day a week last Tuesday at Ruardean Hill Baptist Chapel, where she has been a faithful and regular worshipper for many years – often reading lessons and participating in services.

Friends from the church, the community and the neighbouring lunch club joined Ivy for her birthday tea at the church to extend their greetings and hear some of the many stories of Ivy’s long life.

The following day, the village’s oldest resident met some of the youngest when she visited the toddler group to share birthday cake, and was delighted when they sang Happy Birthday.

Ivy, who was born at Steam Mills near Cinderford and has fond memories of her time at the local school, married at Holy Trinity Church in Drybrook.

She is still very independent and lives with her grandson Darren and his partner Debbie.

Ivy is also a member of the Ruardean Hill and Ruardean Woodside lunch clubs and the local Darby and Joan club.
