SAM Zala and Rosie ‘Minty’ Redwood from Bream have skated 120 miles and raised £330 for their ice hockey team the Cardiff Comets.
The women make a 100 mile round trip to Cardiff every week to train as well as training, without skates, at the Freedom Leisure centres throughout the Forest.
Sam’s wife Helen said: “Ice hockey is traditionally a very expensive sport and the funds raised will help the Cardiff Comets to play for their 25th year.
“The club is not rich and they needs funds to hire the rink for training and home games. The 120 miles were done over four sessions at Castle Combe race circuit on roller blades. Sam and Rosie were allowed to skate at the same time, which made it nice and easy to measure the distance.
“Rosie is also captain of Lydney Hockey Club’s third team and, now the field hockey season has started, she has had to defer her ice hockey training but she and Sam would train at the leisure centre in Lydney, sometimes in the wooden-floored gym and sometimes in a squash court, as the limited space really helps with getting your feet to move quickly.
“They both make the 100-mile round trip to Cardiff every week to train as well as training at the Freedom Leisure Centres throughout the Forest.
“You might spot them in one of the Forest towns, wandering around in full ice hockey kit and if you do, more donations would be massively appreciated.”
