I WRITE regarding the proposed mass cull of boar.
I have been a Forest resident for three years but, man alive, the situation with the boar goes on with no real solution.
It would be boring if there weren’t hundreds of animals lives hanging in the balance.
The proposed mass cull should be unacceptable to anyone, especially when the boar actually bring in revenue for the Forest, as people do come visit the woods and try and see the boar.
A far more creative and inclusive approach could be adopted by all those individuals who have a role in the management of the boar.
For folk to run around our woods shooting the boar in an attempt to curtail the numbers is a short-term answer to a long-term problem.
This proposed cull will amount to nothing more than an outdoor slaughterhouse. Furthermore, it highlights that the culls that have occurred in the past have not been successful in their objective.
All those involved need to be open in their assessment of the situation and how to be more proactive.
Attempting to solve a problem with the same approach repeatedly is the definition of insanity.
You all have something important to contribute.
This shouldn’t be about winners and losers in the boar debate – this should be about a more creative and compassionate approach to our beautiful boar. – Animal lover, via e-mail.
