North Gloucester League

Division One

Blakeney 4, Harrow Hill 2

HAVING overcome a crop of early season injuries the village boys of Blakeney have stormed to second place in their league and face a massive challenge this Saturday.

A win against White City in Gloucester on Saturday would see them take runners-up spot behind Aylburton and with it promotion to the premier division.

Consistency has been the key to the big change in Blakeney's fortunes.

"We were not that good to start," admitted club official Andrew James.

"But once we overcame a crop of injuries we began to play well and we have now won 14 games on the trot," he said.

The latest success was against Harrow Hill.

"It was 1 -1 at half-time but we pulled clear towards the end. Harrow Hill are always a good footballing side and they made us work hard. They were young and fit and it was a good game," said James.

It was game Blakeney had to win to keep in the promotion chase and their goals came from Steve James (2), Nicky Adams and Brian Morgan.

Striker James has been in tremendous form this season scoring 39 goals so far. Nicky Adams and John Reeves have also played major parts, while centre backs Shaun Reeks and Philip Barker-Benfield have been outstanding.

"It's hard to pick out individuals because we have played well as a team. We want that to continue on Saturday at White City," said James.
