KIM Worgan's life was saved by a bone-marrow transplant, and in order to say thanks for the research which helped her she is organising a bikeathon on May 5 at Beechenhurst Lodge.

"The theme is clowning around, and we would encourage anyone who wants to come along in fancy dress," said Kim, whose mother has made 22 clown outfits which will be worn by organisers and marshals along the five-mile course.

Money raised by the event will go to the special Blue Peter appeal for Leukaemia Research – on the same day bikeathons will be being held across the country, all starting at 11pm.

Kim, who received bone-marrow from her brother to treat a rare form of Leukaemia, said: "I spent a lot of time in the bone marrow unit, which is part of the children's hospital at Bristol, and when I finally came out I felt I wanted to do something to help."

She organised the Beechenhurst even with family and friends, and there will be a host of attractions at the Beechenhurst site on the day including Fireman Sam and a barbecue.

"The police are bringing their crime-prevention display as well, but if there are any children's entertainers who would like to play a part for free by way of making a contribution they would be very welcome," she said.

The bikeathon course is suitable for children of all ages and the more participants the better – Kim is urging them to send off to Blue Peter for a special sponsorship pack (A4 SAE to Blue Peter Bikeathon, BBC TV Studios, London W1 or online at http://www.bbc.co">www.bbc.co. uk/bluepeter).

Any donations sent to Kim herself at 12 St John's Square, Cinderford, Glos GL14 3EY will be forwarded to the appeal.
