A SEDBURY-based artist and historian has produced a booklet celebrating the life of a significant figure in the history of the area.
The booklet, researched, written and illustrated by Keith Underwood, marks the 950th anniversary of the establishment of Chepstow Castle by William Fitzosbern, the Earl of Hereford.
Mr Underwood said: “Fitzosbern was a significant figure in history and he began construction of the castle in 1067.
“The Domesday Book clearly states that the castle of Estrighoil was built by Earl William.”
The booklet features illustrations and calligraphy by Mr Underwood, who is well-known for his work locally which includes a mural at the Drill Hall in Chepstow and the ‘achievement’’ or coat of arms on the town arch in Chepstow.
The booklet is available from Chepstow Bookshop in St Mary Street.
