JOYS Green recreation ground in Lydbrook received a much-needed financial boost on Saturday, thanks to a summer fair organised by the recreation committee.

Catherine Brooks is on the fundraising committee. She said: “It went really well and we had a great turn-out all day. So many people helped us – Forest Ices donated some of the money raised from their bouncy castle and ice-cream van. Magic face-painting and a stall selling home-made candles also donated a percentage of their takings. We had loads of donations too for our raffle, from Greenkey Garden and Home, Hawthorn Pet and Animal Supplies, Central Stores in Lydbrook and many others. Lydbrook WI donated cakes and ran a refreshments stall.

“We raised £500, which is enough money to replace one of the children’s rockers. The park was originally funded by the National Lottery who gave us £120,000 in 2002 with a further grant of £23,000 from the Summerfield Trust. The equipment was only covered by the manufacturers for 15 years so we’re looking now at fundraising to repair and replace some of it, as well as to install outdoor gym equipment.”
