A GROUP of volunteers smashed a Forest pub’s fund-raising target with a firewalk.

A dozen people took on the challenge to walk across a bed of hot coals at The George pub at St Briavels on Sunday afternoon.

Landlady Sue Hoskins said: “September is Child Cancer Month so we decided to do something for the Little Heroes Cancer Trust and a firewalk is something different.

“We had a target of £1,000 and we raised £2,030 which we’re really pleased with.”

The event was organised by her daughter, Christina Meredith, who is a chef at the pub and was the first across the coals.

Mrs Hoskins added: “They went across on their bare feet – there were no special gels or anything like that.

“The people who run the firewalk gave them a talk about how to do it and then they went across.”

The pub has recently raised £300 with a race night for a breast cancer charity and has another organised in aid of a prostate cancer charity on Saturday, October 10.
