A BREXIT-supporting MP who wears a body camera to film any abuse he receives was called a ‘liar’ and a ‘traitor’ by a Leave-supporting voter as he gave a TV interview outside Parlaiment.
The extraordinary onscreen spat happened when a passing woman interrupted the BBC Wales interview to call the Monmouth MP a ‘remoaner’ for backing Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal in the last vote.
Ironically, the politician was talking onscreen about a rise in abuse against MPs when he was confronted by the woman.
Wearing a microphone and filming him on her mobile phone, she told the Tory he was “a liar” after he confirmed he voted for the deal.
“Shame on you. You’re a traitor,” she said. “You should feel uncomfortable. You’ve betrayed 17.4 million people.”
She also accused him of “acting like a snowflake.”
But the MP, who wears a GoPro camera around his neck in public to document any abuse from members of the public, turned on the device to film her and hit back by saying: “I voted to leave, actually I’m not a snowflake.
“I actually have been campaigning for Brexit for years so I don’t need to be given lectures by people like you.
“I campaigned for Brexit, where were you? Where were you people when I was out campaigning for Brexit? You were nowhere. You were behind your keyboards and now you’ve come out.”
And he added: “I tell you what, people like you make me want to join the EU again, quite honestly.”
She said: “I was just going to listen to what he was saying, but now I can tell he’s a ‘remoaner’.”
At the end of the three-minute exchange, the MP told the camera: “And that’s what you have to put up with when you’re out here all the time.”
Praising Mr Davies’ handling of the incident, Labour Welsh Assembly member Alun Davies tweeted that it “showed the need for a conversation about how we can disagree with each other, have a serious debate and rebuild our politics”.
Mr Davies replied: “I can start by agreeing with you 100 per cent on that Alun.”
One viewer tweeted that the spat between the two Leave supporters “kind of sums up the whole sorry mess” of Brexit.
“BBC manages to find the personification of Brexit during David Davies interview,” added another.
A third wrote: “David Davies meets the contents of Pandora’s Box. Wonder if it’s sunk in yet?”
