MORE than 100 people braved high winds and driving rain by walking the Severn Bridge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Among them were friends from RoadChef at Magor Services, walking in support of a colleague with cancer and Erica Sheppard of Macmillan's Monmouthshire cancer support and information service.

She said: "It was inspirational to hear the stories of people taking part in the walk. They were walking for all sorts of reasons.

"One of the reasons I took part in the walk was to mark the first year of the cancer support and information service."

The service is available in all Monmouthshire libraries and gives direct access to quality information to people living with or after cancer, their families, friends and carers and to health and care professionals.

Erica added: "It was a real privilege to walk with people and hear their stories although it was very windy up on the bridge."

Walkers from Chepstow met others from the English side before completing the six-mile circuit.
