FOUR sixth form students are using their coursework to help primary school children make the transition to high school in September.

The transition to secondary school can be a daunting experience at the best of times but children going to Caldicot School will also have to cope with a new school being built around them.

But the four Year 12 students, Georgia Mountfield, Maisha Miah, Emily Lewis and Sophie Lewis have created a project as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate to help ease the transition.

The teenagers will take 13 lessons at Archbishop Rowan Williams Primary School in Portskewett and Undy Primary covering topics such as staying safe and basic first aid.

There is also a poster competition with the winner in each of the local primary school receiving a £10 gift voucher and the overall winner a £30 voucher.

The quartet will also be at the transition days with information during the summer when prospective Year Seven pupils visit Caldicot School.

The first phase of the construction of the new 21st century school is due to finish next week with the completion of the demolition of the former special educational needs and technology block.

The new school is due to open in September next year and is being jointly funded by Monmouthshire Council and the Welsh Government.
