A TOWN high street was closed for some two hours after the alarm was raised over a ‘smouldering’ pavement.
Police who were called to the scene at 6.10pm on Monday (February 5) clolsed Cinderford High Street before
alerting fire crews.
An investigation discovered that the smoke was caused by an underground electrical transformer fire.
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue spokesman Rob Bunting said: “Following a call from Gloucestershire Police at 6.41pm, two crews from Cinderford attended an underground electrical fire on the High Street
“The crews were very easily able to resolve the incident, but as a result, a small number of homes were temporarily without power.
“The crews left at 8.15pm after making sure the scene was safe.”
Western Power Distribution said 112 properties had electricity supplies cut off while the problem was dealt with.
