A FAMILY-owned butchers really stepped up to the plate to scoop double gold at a top national competition.
Vales Family Butchers of Drybrook took two golds and a silver at the UK National BBQ Competition in Coventry for their beef burgers, sausages and kebabs.
The village trader, which has been in business for 33 years, has previously won golds for pies and beef burgers.
The winning team this time comprised Kevin Vale, his son Robin Vale, Darrel Moore and Luke Robert.
"It feels really good for the business to win such an honour," said shop owner Kevin. "It’s reward for all the work the lads put in. Darrel and Luke did a lot of the work, and they really stepped up to the plate."
This time there were golds for their pork sausage and British beef burgers, plus a sliver for their chicken kebabs. Presentation, flavour and skill were all factors in gaining medals.
“These products are all readily available as part of our normal stock,” added Kevin. "Well done to the team for providing such quality meat.”
