DONATED goods from the Wye Valley are finally finding their way to the refugees in Calais, thanks to the efforts of a new organisation: Help Calais Chepstow.

Part of the wider iNeed appeal, the organisation has already managed to deliver one load of goods and food to the refugees, and they plan to return this coming weekend with more.

In an appeal via its Facebook page, it has asked for donations of clothes, sleeping bags, hot water bottles, generators, and tools to help the growing numbers of migrants who have gathered in the small French town, and whose plight has touched many people.

The group have now organised drop-off points for donated goods, at Chepstow Baptist Church, Redbrook Church, and the Bridges Centre in Monmouth. They are also asking for volunteers to help sort the items that have been donated, ready for them to be transported directly to the refugees.

They are also asking for anyone with knowledge of building, volunteer co-ordination, language translating, (French, Arabic or English), medical, counselling, mentoring or teaching to get in touch, as these skills are badly needed.

A new warehouse has been organised by the group in Caldicot, to collect, sort and store goods destined for the camps.

Details of the appeal, drop off points, and volunteering opportunities can be found via their Facebook page, or from @HelpCalaisNP16, or Helpcalais
