A CALL is going out to all keen golfers to join in the seventh Dave Roberts Memorial Charity Golf Day in aid of Great Oaks Hospice.

Play will be at Forest Hills Golf Club near Coleford and all funds raised will go to help with the running costs of the Dean's only hospice.

Not only that, but sunshine is almost guaranteed, according to organiser, Jenny Roberts.

"Last year it pelted down the day before and the day afterwards. But on the day itself it was lovely and sunny, and it's been the same in previous years. You might get a touch of fog, but the sun will shine. It's also an opportunity to get out on the greens for one of the first events of the year."

The hospice itself is entirely self-supporting and receives little statutory funding, relying on funds raised from its five charity shops and events like the golf day.

Jenny explains that on the day there will be trophies for both individuals and teams. Teams will comprise four players with the best two scores on each hole counting towards the team score. The cost remains £35  per player and includes coffee, 18 holes of golf and a two course carvery meal.
