STUDENTS from Wyedean School will take to the streets of Chepstow this weekend to highlight their road safety campaign.

They want the speed limit on the new Wye Bridge reduced to boost safety for the hundreds of pupils who cross the bridge between Chepstow and Sedbury on their way to school each day.

The demonstration will take place in Chepstow town centre on Saturday morning from 11am to highlight the campaign and how strongly they feel about the issue.

Sixth former Anna Dewar of Wyedean Student Campaigns said: "We are aiming to reduce the speed limit on the A48 bridge from 50mph to 30mph.

"We are particularly concerned about the high speed limit since more than 200 students cross the bridge every day to make their way to school from Chepstow."

Last year a Wyedean student had to be airlifted to hospital after a collision on the bridge.

The students have the backing of Chepstow town council and have started a petition that has more than 600 signatures.
