COUNTY League results rest on fine margins so even though Rockleaze are bottom of the pile at the moment this was regarded as a significant win for Ellwood.

Playing with greater confidence and more flair than last term, Ellwood look much more composed. Early in the second-half Julian Addis scored the important winning goal.

"We had missed some early chances and that gave Rockleaze some confidence. But after we had scored the important first goal we played steadily and I thought we deserved our win," said player manager Chris Addis.

"It was a really pleasing result. This season we have played with a lot of commitment and plenty of effort. There are no easy games in this league and results can be down to a single mistake or a missed chance. At this stage I am very pleased with how the season has gone," said Addis.

He points out that so far he has been unable to select from his full squad.

"We have a number of injuries including Byron Ranford who will be out of action at least until December. We have also been hit by suspensions so you can see there is still room for us to improve and I'm sure we will do so," he said.

Addis picked out all his defenders as enjoying excellent games against Rockleaze.

"I thought Pendrey was outstanding. I named him as captain and he leads by example. He has been consistent and really outstanding at right back," said Addis.

He also had praise for goalscorer Julian Addis, another, he said, who has produced consistently good performances.

Saturday brings a major test as Ellwood visit Chipping Sodbury, one of the league's top teams this season.
