NINETEEN former Lydney rugby captains lit up the pitch at Regentsholme on Saturday as the club officially marked the installation of new floodlights.
The ex-captains were guests of the club and sponsors J. W. Betty and Son and PSW Metals, who played leading roles in the revamp of the lights.
The club had become one of the first in the west country to have lights. Top London team Harlequins visited Regentsholme for the big switch-on 37 years ago.
Joe Betty explained: " Since those days things have moved on considerably. The upgraded lights bring new standards of light level and efficiency . They are fully compliant with the requirements of the RFU and take the club up to the next playing level."
Peter Watkins, owner of PSW Metals and a former player, said the new lights enhanced the club's excellent facilities.
Both sponsors are vice-presidents of the club and Mr Watkins is chairman of The Severnside Supporters' Club. Mr Betty is vice-chairman.
