I CAN assure Averil Summers (Review, September 4) that, contrary to her accusation, I read her original letter very carefully.

She has clearly read my response but failed to understand it.

As she says, her original letter failed to mention the extent to which EU migrants “pay their way” or the extent to which the NHS depends upon immigrant staff.

Of course she failed to mention them – this is because she painted only a negative picture, portraying immigrants as solely a burden on public services.

My points were intended to demonstrate that, like most British-born people, immigrants are not just consumers of public services but contributors.

It is interesting that my letter was previously attacked by another reader (Tom Atkinson) as being party political for criticising the government.

I wonder if Mr Atkinson will criticise Mrs Summers for her blatant propaganda on behalf of UKIP who seem to blame immigration for every problem.
