I live in one of Two River's so called supported housing schemes for the elderly. I moved here to live a relatively peaceful, stress free life, knowing if I had a problem there was a warden on site to help. That is no longer the case, and although we do have a daily visit, even that service is on the verge of being withdrawn.
I thought my surroundings would be looked after and kept to a certain standard. That is no longer the case. I and my neighbours have a hedge outside our lounge windows that was cut twice a year. Last summer and during the winter we have our lights on all day because it has grown so high and the grass looks like a field.
We have only one door, and in case of fire are told we can climb out of the special opening window, which is difficult to open and have a 4ft drop outside, or wait for the fire brigade locked in a room. The bungalows have night storage heating, which is the most expensive and useless form of heating there is. You have to be a fortune teller to know what the weather is going to be like the next day as to whether it is on or off. Now to cap it all I have just been notified my rent is increasing by over £6 a week. How can this be justified? If services were increasing or even being maintained at the same level it would be more acceptable. I cannot claim because my husband works, for a pittance. I am at my wits end. Caring? I don't think so.
– A really fed up pensioner.
