A VILLAGE’S ‘cart track’ road is to get the full works from Gloucestershire County Council.

In a six-week period early this autumn, the potholed road through Sedbury is to be resurfaced.

It is one of four lengths of road in and on the edge of the Forest to benefit from a slice of £3.1 million extra cash found to pay for improvements.

The work is being welcomed by Tidenham Parish Council chairman Steve Ford. It was, he said, long overdue as some lengths of the road through Sedbury were not much better than a cart track.

He said a diversionary route through Sedbury Lane presented some problems but people would live with the inconvenience.

Mr Ford said he hoped the improvements would be carried out within the six weeks road closure notice and that the completed works would not include the return of the infamous speed cushions.

He said: “They have been more trouble than they are worth. Their return would be the last thing we need.”

In addition to Sedbury work, improvements are also to be carried out at Elton Road, Newnham; the Symonds Yat to Hillersland road, and at Chepstow Road, Coleford (Arthur Cooper Way and Perrygrove).

The county council says the work is in addition to the existing programme of road improvements and resurfacing and on top of the recently announced £2m schedule of summer surface dressing which covers 44 miles.
