ENTRY fees for Caldicot Castle could be abolished by owners Monmouthhire Council.

The council is recommending the move on days when there are no special events to boost the number of visitors to the historic attraction.

The authority is also looking for a company to run the catering operation at the castle.

Tenders are being invited to run the tea rooms from March and to provide hospitality for weddings and other special functions.

The operation was being run by The Crown at Whitebrook which is owned by Michelin-starred chef James Sommerin.

Monmouthshire's cabinet member for Culture and Environment Councillor Giles Howard said: "We intend that these new arrangements will significantly improve the commercial potential of the catering operation and make it easier for residents to enjoy the facilities".
