FOUR dignitaries attended the awarding of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medals to members of the Gloucestershire Cave Rescue Group. The ceremony was attended by nearly 100 people, and took place in the obvious location – 150 feet underground in Clearwell Caves.

Mr Richard Berry, Assistant Chief Constable of Gloucestershire, Mr Jon Hall, Chief Fire Officer of the Gloucestershire Fire and Fescue Service, Mr Ceri Evans, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, and Mr Tony Forster, HSE Mines Inspector, helped to present the coveted medals to almost 50 members of the Cave Rescue Group.

The presentation took place in the 'barbeque churn' – the huge cave that forms the centre of the Clearwell Caves upper levels, and which has been used for filming scenes for Dr Who, Merlin and many other films and TV programmes, and the cave was specially lit and equipped with a static equipment display of rescue equipment, and a computer and projector especially for the occasion.
