A CCTV camera is to be installed on land beside a supermarket, following complaints about fly-tipping.

Cinderford Town Council decided to install one of their movable cameras next to the Lidl store.

The retailer has also agred to pay £1,500 towards two new specially-designed miners’ benches to be sited on the grassed area.

A council spokesperson said: “Following complaints of frequent fly-tipping on the High Street on a piece of land leading to Lidl we have been working with the supermarket to solve this problem.

“We have decided to install one of our movable CCTV cameras at the site, and this should be in place very soon.

“The town council are going to maintain the grassed area and Lidl are paying £,1500 towards two miners benches to be sited in the area.

“Hopefully in time we can create a nice space for shoppers to rest.”

They added that they had attempted to contact the owner of the adjoining fenced land, but hadn’t received a reply.

One woman resident responded to the council’s post by saying: “Well done Cinderford Town Council.

“I have emailed Lidl about the rubbish around the trolley area and around the store.

“However it is the people who shop at Lidl’s who drop the litter. Nothing to be proud of.”
