CHILDREN on the Welsh side of the border dressed up in traditional costume and sports tops to mark St David's Day.

Pembroke Primary School in Bulwark welcomed special visitors Chepstow Male Voice Choir who sang songs in both English and Welsh.

Year Six pupil listened from a special chair after being named the school's St David's Day bard.

Wesley won the accolade for his story The Dragon's Breath which also won him the prize for the best handwriting.

Headteacher Mr Gary Keble said: "Wesley's story was very descriptive and deserved to win the prize."

Children from Castle Park Primary School in Caldicot also met a special visitor in the shape of Bakewell the robotic dragon.

The children went to Caldicot Castle to meet the dragon who the only one of his kind in the UK having been flown from California last month.

Bakewell is owned by children's entertainer Louis Taylor of Caldicot who performs under the stage name of Wizzo the Wizard.
