MORE than 90 competitors represented main schools in this year's Forest Schools Badminton Tournament sponsored by Wildin & Co.
More than 200 games were played during the weekend and after some very closely contested matches Whitecross managed to retain the overall school trophy for the fifth year in succession.
The matches were played in an excellent spirit of sportsmanship, and the overall standard of play so high that the local badminton clubs who were officiating encouraged the players to join local clubs so that they could develop their game further.
The under 16 singles winners were both familiar faces Ria Clarke (WX) and Lewis Turley (HW) have both won the junior section in the past and their experience showed in the finals. Under 16 runners up Debbie Moreton and Nico Nelson (WY) weren't disappointed for long they paired up to win the mixed doubles titles from Lewis Turley and Cathy Bedney (HW).
An all-Newent 14 girls final saw Katie Evans and Susie Kerr battling for the title but Katie's impressive form throughout the tournament held true. Owen Townly (WX) took the under 14 boys' title after a closely contested game with Thomas Parsons (HW) despite twisting his ankle mid way through.
The U14 mixed final featured Owen Townly with partner Carly Thomas (WX), but after some entertaining rallies Katie Evans and Ben Burgess (NEW) won a close game.
