ONE of six gazebos at a charity fun day was lost during Saturday night’s heavy downpour.
Organisers at the Nags Head in Yorkley braved the weather to control the rest of the gazebos from a similar fate.
One of the organisers, Sara Byett said: “We had to hold a few down after losing one but it was all good fun. Nobody left without getting a drenching. Up until then everybody had a lovely day and we raised in total £1,206.76 for Forest Pulse, who helps families with disabled children.
“We decided to help the charity as a family member attends and we wanted to raise awareness, as well as support the fantastic work they do. You never know if in the future one of our children might need them, it is a worthwhile cause.”
Around 500 spent the afternoon enjoying live music by local acts, stalls and a real ale bar. Some 360 balloons were released as part of a race to see whose would land the furthest.
Sara added: “Participants sent off the balloons with their name and our address and we are going to wait three weeks to see how many we receive and work out the winner. It’s possible for the balloons to reach as far as France! The winner will receive a family ticket to a local attraction.
“I want to thank everybody for their support and to those who helped on the day and donated items or services free-of-charge. It wouldn’t have been possible to host the day without them.”
