A FOREST landlady has cycled 240 miles from London to Paris as part of a nine-month campaign to raise more than £4,000 for charity.
Maria Young, of the Rising Sun in Woolaston Common, has hosted fundraisers every month since January in aid of the oncology department at Bristol Southmead Hospital.
A harvest festival from marked the last event.
She said: “It has been so much fun. We literally haven’t stop fundraising – there’s always something to think about from coming up with ideas to actually hosting the event. We have had curry nights and pie and mash nights.
“The bulk of our money was raised from our summer ball, and I spent three days cycling from London to Paris. I’m exhausted but I just kept thinking of the reason why I am doing it.
“One of our members of staff, Carol, lost her husband last year after years of battling with cancer. The ward we are raising money for treated Royston until he passed away.
“I’d like to thank all my lovely customers for their generosity – they have been wonderful – they welcomed me home from my cycle and have been so supportive.”
