A SEVENTH group of Belarussian children are arriving in Brockweir on Sunday for a one-month recuperative stay.

The six girls and four boys are all in some way suffering from the after effects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant explosion.

"Fifteen years on, the number of childhood illnesses such as leukaemia and thyroid cancer have escalated and the people of Belarus are living with the legacy that the explosion left," said a spokesmen for the holiday organisers, Chernobyl Children Life Line Coleford.

"Tests have proven that a stay in this country with rest, good nourishing food and clean air can boost the immune system and help fend off some of the terrible diseases that may occur at a later date."

The children will stay as a group in a cottage in Brockweir on weekdays and with local host families at weekends.

A variety of activities have been arranged with trips to the seaside and local beauty spots, horse riding and swimming.
