A MUSICAL youth group has been invited to perform at a sell-out concert at Cardiff’s prestigious St David’s Hall after impressing the headliners they supported at a recent festival.
Chepstow Musical Youth Theatre’s show choir were so well received at the town’s Castell Roc festival by Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro that they asked them to share the stage with them again on Tuesday, November 14.
The choir, which was only formed after being invited to support Collabro at Castell Roc, sang a selection of musical theatre numbers at the Chepstow show, and will be performing songs from Miss Saigon and The Lion King when they appear in the Welsh capital.
Spokeswoman Louise Best said: “The choir was so well received by the audience and Collabro themselves that they have been invited to perform on stage with the group in Cardiff on their ‘Home’ tour this autumn.
“This is an incredible opportunity for the choir who are all thrilled and excited to be part of such a big event.”
CMYT is based at Chepstow’s Community Music Centre at Wyedean School and has more than 80 students who meet weekly to learn singing, dancing, acting and performance skills.
To date, more than 500 children and young adults have been members since the company’s formation in 2001.
The juniors performed Annie Jr at the Drill Hall this summer, while the seniors performed Legally Blonde – The Musical.
Next year, CMYT will be performing Fiddler On The Roof in March, and Oliver in May/June.
