I LOVE my local town, Coleford, but if I was a tourist and I saw the signs saying 'historic market town' I would be a little disappointed.
It is very sad when you look back and see how many fantastic buildings have been demolished in the town over the years.
How beautiful would Coleford look if the old Town Hall was still standing?
Now I hear there are plans to demolish St John's church. This would be an absolute travesty. When you enter Coleford you see this magnificent building elevated above the town but they want to knock it down?
Has enough been done to save St John's?
I don't attend St John's but I would gladly get involved in fund raising and I'm sure plenty of other people would too. I know the congregation is dwindling and they probably feel overwhelmed by the task but I think lots of locals would be interested in saving the church. It's part of our heritage and there must be grants or local businesses that might make donations.
I don't know how far things have gone and if it's too late but please don't demolish another fantastic building in Coleford.
