A BID to convert a closed high street bank into a community venue was boosted after planners approved the change of use.

Cinderford Town Council borrowed £200,000 to buy the former HSBC Market Street bank building last year with the aim of of transforming it into a community hub.

The bid to reopen the building and bring it into public use is part of the town council’s £2.3m Future High Streets bid, which the Forest Council has adopted and is preparing an application on to the government.

Forest planners approved the change of use to hold community events and functions, including pop-up shops and food service, with alterations to include the provision of a changing places toilet which has room for carers.
