A FOREST couple found themselves centre stage at Aylburton carnival after organisers spotted their classic car.

Mike and Babs Delaney, of Broadwell, had pulled their 1959 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite into Taurus Crafts to watch the floats when a main organiser asked them if they wanted to lead the procession.

Babs said: "We were parked up and our car must have caught the eye of a main organiser who came rushing over and asked us if we could lead the procession as the original booking had let them down at the last minute.

"We were only too happy to help and led the two lorries, tractor and walkers towards the Playing Fields. "We have led many carnival processions before in the car but this was our first time at Aylburton. If we'd known we were going to be leading the carnival queen I'd have dressed up. It was a lovely surprise and honour."
