THE children at the Children's Opportunity Centre were pleased to receive a visit from Brian Trendell on behalf of Forest Hills Golf Club.

As captain of the golf team in 2013, Brian nominated the charity to receive fundraising proceeds from throughout the year.

"I decided that my charity had to be local, and that all the money raised during my captaincy had to benefit the local community and surrounding areas," he said. "The Children's Opportunity Centre was my first choice as it ticked all the right boxes. It was very clear that as soon as I announced my chosen charity to the members of Forest Hills Golf Club that they fully approved of my choice."

Throughout the year Brian and other golf club members have put on a number of golf-related fundraising events, including a marathon golf event and a charity golf day which made a total of £4,770.

Louisa Davies, fundraising and marketing co-ordinator at the centre, was delighted to receive the cheque.

She said: "The centre does not receive any statutory funding so we rely on fundraising, both internally and externally. Congratulations to Brian for raising such a fantastic sum – and our thanks for a donation that really will make a difference to our families."

The charity supports children from birth to seven and works especially with children with special needs/disabilities and their families across the whole of the Forest of Dean.
