FURTHER to your article regarding the parking attendant monitoring use of the one-way system at Lydney Co-op car park I would like to say I am delighted and not before time.

I am painfully aware that the car park is poorly designed having recently had my car damaged by a reversing car and welcome the presence of an attendant who could act as an independent witness.

The one-way system would assist traffic flow and facilitate safer parking if only users followed the signs rather than going against the flow of traffic and "nipping" into spaces already lined up by people correctly using the one-way system who then have to go round again.

Cars frequently exit against the direction arrows placing pedestrians at risk when they return trolleys and also causing hold ups for delivery lorries and others following the signs correctly.

The system of checking parking times has been in existence at Cinderford Co-op for some time. It is not punitive, giving ample time to pop to other shops as well as the Co-op but ensuring that cars are not taking up space allocated for shoppers all day.

I was  disappointed to hear that Mr Slater was actually cheered by by-standers for refusing to follow the one-way system and trust that a minority who feel they can do just as they like do not discourage the store from continuing this policy.
