A CHEPSTOW pub has been named the best in Gwent for the second year in a row.
The Coach and Horses in Welsh Street was named town pub of the year by the Gwent branch of Camra, the Campaign for Real Ale.
Landlord Ian Meyrick was delighted at the win that came at the same time as the pub was about to hand over £400 to the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice.
He said: "It's great to have this recognition for the quality of our pub. It's a real town pub.
"It's about the quality of the beer, the food and the atmosphere but we also do a lot of charity work.
"Our charity this year is the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice for Wales, which does an amazing job helping children."
On Monday Mr Meyrick presented Ty Hafan with a cheque for £400 which was raised by selling
pegs.
He said: "We sold the pegs and each time somebody was found not to have their peg they had to put 50p in the box.
"We sold over 100 pegs and it's been good fun."
More events are planned throughout the year and the next one is a sponsored pie-eating competition.
Mr Meyrick said: "Peter's Pie have kindly agreed to donate the pies and everyone who wants to take part will have to be sponsored.
"We are hoping to have four categories: men, women, under-13s and pensioners.
"We already have sponsor forms behind the bar for anyone who wants to take part."
