From his letter in last week's Review I understand that Paul Morgan is a fan of supermarkets, but for heaven sake doesn't Coleford deserve better than Tesco?
Mr Morgan begrudgingly admits that the centre of our ancient market town has three local butchers and a greengrocer. However, he has failed to notice that it also has one of the best bakers in the Forest, a health food shop, a bookshop which puts on events, a family-run computer shop, flower shops, an amazing pottery, and a community (something that you do not get in a supermarket).
Shopkeepers, their families, shoppers and their friends are closely-knit and supportive of each other in Coleford, and a regular market in the centre of town has recently been given the go ahead. Some people think all this is worth something.
I notice that Mr Morgan has not mentioned attending the public inquiry into the building of Tesco that started in June and is ongoing. Perhaps he should be part of that informed discussion before he swings in to support the supermarket with the worst reputation for putting commercial gain before customer care, syphoning off profits abroad and devastating every small market town it moves into.
