I know it is difficult in these hard times to ask people
again to put their hand in their pocket, but here in the
parish of Lydbrook, there is a little known organisation
called Lydbrook Community Care. But they also cover
most of the Forest if they can.
They have been a lifeline to me recently as my
husband is seriously ill in Gloucestershire Royal and
without their volunteer drivers I don't know what I would
have done (you have to pay mileage unless you are on
certain benefits).
The drivers have all acted over and above the call of
duty to help me and have been kindness itself. They also
offer other services such as gardening schemes, advice on
benefits etc. and have various aids for sale or hire
(wheelchairs, frames etc).
The scheme is not confined just to the elderly but to
anyone in our society who might feel they need some
help.
Like other community groups their funding has been
severely cut back and they are urgently seeking ways and
means of getting financial help. They are endeavouring to
fund raise as much as they can but could I ask people
please to donate their loose change (or even £20 notes!)
to this very worthy local cause.
The address is: Lydbrook Community Care, Lydbrook
Valley Springs, Lydbrook, GL17 9PP (Registered Charity
No.1082253) or phone Sarah or Carol on 01594 860143
on Monday to Thursday mornings to find out more. Your
help will be much appreciated, otherwise community
groups like these will be lost and never replaced.
