DILKE Hospital Fête on Saturday (June 10) drew a huge amount of support despite the rain according to organisers.
Chair of the hospital’s League of Friends, Rob Young, said: “It was a wet day but our faithful supporters came along irrespective of the rain.
“We’re hopeful the event will have cleared just over £5,000, including some generous donations. Severn Dean Lions Club donated £1,000 and Forest of Dean Motor Club donated £500 from the sale of their book Wyedean at 40.
“It’s aways enjoyable although a lot of hard work goes into the event by a small bunch of us.
“There are six of us on the committee, but all our families get dragged in to help.”
Cinderford Scouts manned a hot dog stall, the Forest of Dean Rotary ran the coconut shy and there were numerous tombolas. Steam Mills country dancing team gave a display led by Miss Stephanie Bosley and Berry Hill Band played, while there was a circus skills entertainer and a stilt walker for children. Many members of the hospital staff also ran stalls.
“Severn and Dean Lions always give a hand to set up on the Friday and clear away at 4.30pm on the day and do all of the car parking as well,” Rob added. “The money we raise is used for whatever the hospital deem necessary, but will probably be used for a patient ‘hoist’.
“We’d like to thank everyone involved in organising and running the event and in particular we’re grateful to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Severn Dean Lions Club and Cinderford Branch of the Royal British Legion. Thanks to everybody who came along on a damp day and supported us.”
