COMMUNITY transport charity Lydney Dial-a-Ride says it is continuing to operate many services as normal.

Manager Louise Currie said additional cleaning of vehicles began last week and antibacterial gel has been made available for passengers.

She said: “We also issued advice asking people who are unwell not to travel and to not be offended as we try and implement social distancing as much as we possibly can.

“However, we do also realise that people still need to have access to their local services.

“We understand that people still need to access the basic services such as shopping and medical appointments and while we are able, we intend to continue to offer this service.

“We would ask people to take all sensible precautions, wash their hands before leaving home, use the anti-bacterial hand gel available on the minibuses and under no circumstances travel if they or someone they are close to are unwell.

“If a passenger requires to be self-isolated, we may be able to collect basic shopping or medical supplies and take them to their door.

“Please call us on 834809 and we will do all we can to help.’’

She said home-to-school transport will continue until they are instructed otherwise.

Rural bus routes are 23A, 35A, 701, 707, 708 and 777. Ms Currie added: “This gives people access to the shops on these routes and is an important lifeline to many.’’

Many non-essential hospital trips through the volunteer car service are being cancelled.

Volunteers are being asked to decide for themselves if they are available to drive and that is being reviewed on a regular basis.

Ms Currie said: “Lastly I would like to call out to the local community.

“Now, more than ever, in our 30-year history we need your help and support.

“Pass this information on to whoever needs it and think of us if you are looking for a local charity to support.

“I have great pride in this small but dynamic charity and I have no doubt that we can navigate these uncharted roads.

“From our Lydney Dial a Ride family to your family we hope you all stay safe and well.”
