FOREST of Dean Brass hosted a concert in memory of Russell Morse who played in the band for 80 years.
Baritone and guest soloist Ben Stratford performed to a well-attended crowd at the Yorkley Bandroom.
Russell’s favourite songs Macarthur Park, Pines of Rome, Resurgham and Songs of the Quay were performed.
Conductor Chris Howley said: “Russell died in February – just two days before his 88th birthday. Since the age of eight he has played cornet with the band and even when he gave up five years ago he would still visit our bandroom.
“The concert was well-attended and it was lovely to see friends of Russell’s in the audience. Overall the event was a good send off for him and he was certainly with us in spirit.
“Russell was also a very well-respected footballer in the local community especially at Viney Hill Football Club who he played for until the age of 50.”
