A CLUTCH of promising young cricketers from Lydney's White-cross School are expected to be among the runs and the wickets for Gloucestershire in a testing series of matches across the country this summer.

All four boys will play for the county in their respective age groups and have been described by sportsmaster Ian Wilkins as exceptionally talented players.

Among them is Tom Legge, aged 14, who earlier this summer became the youngest ever player to score a century for a Lydney senior team when he struck 115 against Bredon.

And appearing in that same Lydney team was fast bowling prospect James Bishop who returned figures of 3 for 24 and will be hoping for an equally impressive strike rate when he plays for the county.

They are joined in the county squads by Edward Jones and William Jones, two more cricketers described as highly skilled and outstanding in school matches and in club cricket.

The boys face a busy schedule with matches against Wales, Lancashire, Surrey, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Somerset.
