NEWNHAM'S big-hitting cricketers have needed retrievers to fetch the ball this season. But on Sunday they are planning to raise money for guide dogs.

"I hope it doesn't mean we are going to lose our way. We are unbeaten in league games this season," says club official Dan Keddle.

Newnham will be fielding a Select X1 against a Uley Association of Guide Dogs Select X1, rumoured to be including at least one former county player.

"It promises to be a good afternoon and a bit of fun. The game starts on the Brightlands Playing Field at 2.30pm and we are hoping a lot of local people will turn up.

Attractions will include a barbecue and the sale of home-made cakes.
