I HAVE just read about Newent Tourist Information Centre closing. I know the plans to close Coleford. I was horrified. Are we not trying to encourage tourists? More and more houses are being built in the Forest. The roads cannot cope with the commuters to Gloucester now. More tourism means more jobs locally.
I have been told there will be a T.I. point instead. Where will the person be who gives advice and books trips? Where will the gift shop be? Not everyone uses the internet and the signal for wireless here is practically non existant. What on earth is the council thinking by closing it?
We need tourism and somewhere for the tourists to go to get their info. A computer in a community centre is not a person in a tourist info office. I just cannot believe it is to be closed.
Also what about the local people that use it for bus timetables etc – what will they do?
Lastly the Tourist Info Office gets people into town. I wonder who designed the cycle tracks as I watch people drive to Cannop, cycle through the wood, back to Cannop, then drive out of the Forest having eaten a packed lunch and going nowhere near a town where they would spend some money.
What's wrong with this picture – council, I am asking you. – Charlotte Daniel, Broadwell.
