THE UKIP councillor Alan Preest, who wrote to you recently concerning immigration, advocates siting a gypsy camp at the old MOD site in Caerwent. It seems that anywhere will do so as long as it's not in his backyard.
Is he oblivious to the fact that half the site concerned has already been sold to a private developer and has been built upon? By even suggesting this solution, he is making himself and his party, very unpopular with the purchasers of these properties, some of whom are UKIP supporters.
Of course the councillor is fully aware that he does not have to rely on the votes from the area concerned to keep him in office, which only serves as another example of how cynical local politics has become in recent years.
