NEWLYWEDS Daniel and Isabella have thanked those who helped out to save their big day in the teeth of Storm Arwen.

Power cuts caused by the storm on Saturday (November 27) meant plans had to be changed at the last minute - but they say the Forest Church and the Speech House Hotel pulled out all the stops.

The couple were married at Holy Trinity Church, Drybrook - better known as the Forest Church - followed by a reception for 80 people at the Speech House.

Daniel, of Harrow Hill, said: "We woke up and discovered there was no power at home.

"We were getting married at the Forest Church so we rang the vicar (Rev Clare Edwads) and she said whatever we needed she’d help us with.

"If they didn’t have power the ceremony would be candle-lit

"Izzy spent the night at the Speech House and they had power off as well but they couldn’t have been better.

"They got some generators in so there was light for the reception and they managed to assemble a two course buffet for us.

They also managed to get hold of Peppers Perfect Pizza Van so they cooked the pizza in the van and brought it to us.

"They made sure we could put something and catered for all the dietary needs

"We just carried on - there was not a lot we could have done.

"Luckily the power was on in the church and I went to a friend’s to get ready.

"There was a really good atmosphere all day we just got on with and in some ways it made it more special.

"Everyone involved put in the most tremendous effort to ensure that we had a fantastic and memorable day from start to finish."

"We could not have asked for more."
