A CHARITY trolley dash resulted in more than £300 worth of food being donated to a local food bank as it faces an increase in usage over the winter months.
CDRT chairman, Simon Hicks, said: “Two teams of intrepid ‘tablers’ ran around the aisles filling the trolleys with as much food and as many Christmas gifts as possible.
“At the end of the event we had donated over £300 worth of Christmas cheer.”
The donation was in partnership with the Trussell Trust and Chepstow Food Bank and aimed to assist those most at need during the festive season.
Sarah Coleman, project manager at Chepstow Food Bank, said: “We see an increase in the number of people we feed from November to February, as people can be faced with the choice of heating their homes or eating.
“The main reasons why people are forced to turn to food banks are low income and benefit changes and delays. However, 15 per cent of the people we see are in work.
Simon added: “The Round Table members give their time freely to raise money all year through events such as the Chepstow Community Fireworks and Santa’s sleigh.
“This is just one of the ways in which we can give back to the community and help those most in need.
“We are always looking for new members, so if anyone fancies coming along then just get in touch.”
