NURSING an ambition to return to higher grade Northern Senior League football, the young Westbury on Severn team will face their day of destiny when they entertain Woolaston, probably next month.
The match, says Westbury official David D'Ambrogio, is likely to seal Westbury's fate.
"A win and we could be in the end of season shake-up. If Woolaston see us off then I think we could be out of the chase for promotion," he says.
To date it has been a good season for the Severnside village. From the early stages it became apparent the Premier Division title was going to be settled by one of the village sides along the A48 corridor. And so it has proved.
At present Minsterworth are top with 33 points, Woolaston are second on 31 and Westbury, third with 29.
"There's a theory that at the moment Forest football is at a bit of a low and that, for now, the balance of power is with the teams from the vale clubs. It looks that way but, of course, it can change very quickly," says D'Ambrogio.
Playing neat and constructive football, both Broadwell and Westbury had their moments in a game described as "excellent."
Westbury started strongly and built up a two goal advantage, but Broadwell hit back to level the scores at half-time. Again Westbury pressed the accelerator and went two goals clear, only for Broadwell to hit back as the visitors conceded an own goal.
For Westbury Luke Murdock was in great form and scored a hat-trick with their fourth goal netted by Toby McGregor.
It was a good afternoon for the McGregor clan – at one stage all four brothers Sam, Joe, Alex and Toby were in action.
