CHEEKY robbers have spoiled a Blakeney man's holiday plans by stealing his caravan in broad daylight.

Cyril Ellis, whose cottage is on the busy A48 through the village, was astounded when he came home to find they had brought the van out onto the main road on a blind bend with nobody apparently noticing.

They had also dragged it from its parking place in his orchard across his yard and through a farm gate to make their exit.

"I was astonished that they did it all in broad daylight in such a noticeable place," Mr Ellis said.

"I am just hoping that seeing a story about this will jog somebody's memory – there must have been people driving past when it happened.

"It is such a difficult spot to get the van out. When I bring it out it's a two-man job and I get my son to drive while I go well down the road to slow traffic down, it's so dangerous."

The 1989 Sprite Alpine LX caravan had its security chain cut and was taken off his propery somewhere between 3pm last Friday, when he went out, and 6pm when a neighbouring farmer, Michael Johnston, noticed some of his sheep straying on the road.

The farmer drove his animals back and noticed that Mr Ellis' caravan had gone and the gate had been left open by the thieves.

Mr Ellis said he had just booked site spaces in Cornwall for a holiday in a month's time which he would now have to cancel.

He wonders if the thieves might have spied out the ground when there was a big house contents sale at a neighbouring property a few weeks ago.

He would like anyone who has information to call the police on 01452 521201 giving incident number 437.
